Allardyce Drifting

Betting on Managerial appointments is notoriously difficult unless you have inside information. That is one reason why traditional bookies are very cautious with these markets and I normally shy away from them, save for a bit of fun.

Everything I read in the public domain seems to indicate that Allardyce will take up the post at Newcastle after the last game of the season, when compensation clauses in his Bolton contract will no longer be triggered.

I advised backing Allardyce at 1.23 earlier today, but he has slowly drifted all day and whilst still a short price favourite at 1.30 the drift is beginning to worry me.

There is no significant money for any other candidates, in fact most of them are on the drift. Sven is now 2nd favourite at 26 followed by Houillier at 30, Coleman at 32, Pardew at 34 and Juande Ramos at 38.

I still can't see past Allardyce and would be astounded if Freddy Shepherd passes up this opportunity to employ the most effective English manager available - but then again this is Newcastle we are talking about!

I wouldn't advise getting heavily involved in this market, but it is an intriguing one to keep an eye on
