Beckham 9/4 to play against Estonia

Bet 365 have sensed the growing clamour around a recall for David Beckham, chalking up a 9/4 quote that Goldenballs will be in the starting 11 against Estonia on June 6th.

Steve McClaren will have to swallow his pride and go back on his decision to effectively end Beckham's international career if the former captain is to land the odds.

McClaren is almost friendless in the media and with the general public, and his weak position may tempt him to bow to populist pressure.

On current form, Beckham is a better bet than Lennon or Wright-Phillips and it is worth having a small interest at 9/4 just to watch the hugely out of his depth Mclaren squirm.

Paul,

I really can't see that McClaren can pick Beckham again - not just because he'd lose face, but the player's move to the US is a halfway house to retirement. Wouldn't McClaren recalling him be comparable to Graham Taylor recalling Lineker after he went to play at Grampus 8?!

I like the Tigana tip, though. Ranieri must be a lay at this price.

Thanks for your comments.

I'm not a huge fan of Beckham myself, but based on current form and fitness I think he should be in the squad.

Capello has turned round Madrid's season and has picked Beckham consistently in recent weeks.

Personally I would trust the judgement of Capello over McLaren, and if he is good enough for Real Madrid he must be good enough to get into a poor England side.

I do agree though that when (if) he moves to the US he won't be picked again.

As for Tigana, probably unlikely to get the Man City job but if I was a chairman of a Premiership side he would be top of my list.

A great player and a great manager.
