Carvalho absence gives Liverpool the edge

The vagaries of the away goals rule in the Champions League will ensure a tense and tight battle at Anfield this evening, as Benitez and Mourinho go toe-to-toe once again.

If Chelsea keep a clean sheet they will make their first ever Champions League Final and prove once and for all that money can buy the ultimate success regardless of pedigree and tradition.

However you could argue that a clean sheet has even more importance to Liverpool. Put simply if they concede they are almost certainly on their way out. The Liverpool rearguard has been miserly all season at Anfield - conceding just 5 league goals in 18 home matches and benitez will urge caution in the early stages.

My opinion on the match has changed dramatically since last week when I strongly fancied Chelsea to progress to the final in Athens.

The absence of Ricardo Carvalho is a major blow for Chelsea, who have not lost a match this season with Terry and Carvalho in tandem at the back, and I am now tempted to back a Peter Crouch inspired Liverpool to progress.

Given this indecsion, I think I will keep a watching brief unless anything obvious appeals in-running.

I will update again nearer kick off
